An appliance to suit everyone

Having teeth straightening treatment is a big decision and it is important that you get the appliance that is most suited to your circumstances and lifestyle. Having a consultation appointment with your dental practitioner will allow them to explain what different options are available to you, as well as answering any questions that you may have regarding your treatment. More often than not people want to find out what discreet options are available, as they wish to straighten their teeth without people noticing. Both Invisalign and lingual appliances offer subtle treatment, with Invisalign utilising clear plastic aligners and lingual appliances being attached to the inside surfaces of your teeth.

Lingual braces are made up of metal brackets and wires that attach to the inside surfaces of your teeth. They are completely hidden from view to other people and not noticeable when you smile. Working by gradually moving your teeth into their new positions, you will need to attend a check-up appointment with your dental professional around every six weeks to ensure that your treatment is working effectively and to tighten your appliance when needed.

Invisalign provides a removable appliance, so you do not need to worry about having to navigate your appliance when you are brushing your teeth or getting food stuck in your teeth when you are eating in public. The clear, plastic aligners fit over your own teeth comfortably and are barely noticeable to others. You will have multiple sets of aligners and they must be worn in order, as each set will move your teeth into a new position that is closer to their final desired one. To ensure your treatment works efficiently you must ensure that you are wearing your aligners for a minimum of twenty-two hours a day.

Aftercare that creates long-lasting results

Treatment time will always vary when you are straightening your teeth regardless of which appliance you use, as everything will depend upon your own personal circumstances. However, no matter how long your treatment takes it is just as important to approach your aftercare with the same dedicated attitude if you want your teeth to stay in their new positions. Your dental professional will issue you with a retainer to wear when your treatment is finished, and this must be worn as you are instructed. Some people will only need to wear their retainer for a matter of months, whilst other people will need to wear it for the rest of their life. Retainers are usually worn constantly for around a week after your treatment and then just at night. Not wearing your retainer properly could result in your teeth moving back into their old positions and create the need for additional treatment.
